Warrant For Arrest
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF WARRANTS
- bench warrants (cold)
- arrest warrants (hot)
Cold means that if you are stopped for a traffic violation
or otherwise detained by the police, upon checking your
record, you will be immediately cuffed and taken to
jail. Otherwise, as long as you don't stumble into a
law enforcement officer, you will not be arrested.
Cold Bench warrants are usually issued for the following:
Failure to appear in court on a scheduled court date
- Failure to pay a court-ordered fine or to perform court-ordered
community service
- A Hot Bench Warrant means they are looking for you.
The cops will come to your home, office, or anywhere
else they think they can find you. A judge requesting
your arrest has signed an arrest warrant and the officers
have been ordered to find you and bring you in.
If you learn there is a hot warrant with your name
on it, retaining counsel will give you the advantage
of surrendering at a place and a time of your choosing
(within reason).
